But we need to ensure all Americans can enjoy the jobs, opportunities, and benefits of this new economy.

Campaign Planning 101 - Karissa Gerhke, University of South Florida - Having trouble reaching your organization’s goals and aspirations? Come learn some skills to help you effectively plan a campaign on your campus or in your community!

Campus Climate Action Planning - Lisa Madry + Juliana Goodlaw-Morris, National Wildlife Federation - Learn how to bring students, faculty, staff and administration together to develop a plan for reducing campus greenhouse gas emissions.

Can I Get There from Here? The Transformation of Transportation - Scott Minos, U.S. Department of Energy - Major components of this workshop include: History - How did I get here?  Why CAFE, and what was the impact on mileage and on automotive design?  Where do we go now?  What do we WANT to do? Is efficiency the answer?  Are fuels?  What else impacts mileage and design?  How do I get there? New CAFE rules.

Carbon-Capture-and-GROW (CCG: Algae Biofuels) - Chris Castron, UCF I.D.E.A.s -  There is currently no panacea that will save our atmosphere, but there are various technologies that when utilized together, could combat the harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions we currently emit. One of these technologies, carbon-capture-and-grow (CCG), utilizes algae to not only help mitigate CO2 emissions but also supplement growing reactors to produce various products such as biodiesel, ethanol and animal feed. The advantages and disadvantages of various algae growing and refining processes will be discussed in this presentation, along with the major impediments hindering the commercialization of such technologies. 

Don't Nuke Florida! - Mandy Hancock + Jessica Burris, Southern Energy Network - With 4 new nuclear reactors prosposed in the state of Florida, our health, safety, and water supply are being threatened by utilities' reluctance to go renewable. This workshop will give an overview of the current status of these proposals and what YOU can do to help us stop them so we can have SOlar in the Sunshine State!

Engaging Policymakers:  Field-Tested Strategies and Tactics - Steve Murchie, National Wildlife Federation - What really moves an elected official?  This workshop will provide an overview for developing a strategy, identifying and engaging potential allies, implementing an earned media plan, and constructively engaging policymakers, both directly and indirectly.

Federal Climate & Energy Policy Panel Discussion - Steve Murchie, National Wildlife Federation + Lance Orchid, RePower America/The Alliance for Climate Protection + Jane Maxwell, Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy - Learn about the challenges and opportunities we face in working to implement effective, sustainable climate and energy policies on a national level.

Getting Real Food on your Campus - Elena Dulys, The Real Food Challenge - How does a student body get just, sustainable food into campus dining halls?  This presentation outlines the Real Food Challenge, a national campaign which works to do just that.  You'll find out why you should care about just, sustainable food, who we are, and what we can do to help you get real food on your campus.

Green Anarchy: An overview of Principles and Ideas - Gabe Monje, University of Central Florida - A basic overview of the principles and ideas of green anarchism and what they really mean, including discussion about environmental justice and how green anarchism is alive within the movement for a greener environment.

Green Student Housing:  Sterling Central - UCF will lead the way - Don Brooks, Sterling University - This workshop will take attendees through the greening process of the first LEED “Silver” certified student housing project in Orlando.

Greening your Campus: Approaching your school about creating greener, environmentally friendly policies - Tommaso Boggia, Campus Progress - Do you want your campus administration to adopt sustainable practices, but aren’t sure how to get started? Are you in the middle of efforts to make your campus green and realize that you do not have a solid plan to win? This workshop can help by covering the basics of planning a campaign to make your campus energy efficient, like power mapping, creating a timeline, setting goals, and creating a strategy.

How Natural Ecosystems Save Lives and How You Can Save Natural Ecosystems - Jim Egan, Marine Resources Council - Mr. Egan visited the Tsunami-hit areas of Southeast Asia, just before and just after the 2004 tsunami and will share his first hand experiences of how natural ecosystems played a role in the survival of thousands of lives and how damage to natural ecosystems caused the death of thousands and the loss of entire cities. He takes lessons learned in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Indonesia and relates them to Florida, it's vulnerability to tsunamis and how these same lessons also apply to hurricanes and northeasters.  Mr Egan will explain how the impacts of natural disasters like tsunamis and hurricanes are often created by man-made disasters that precede them, due to poor ecosystem management.  He will also show how local volunteers can restore natural ecosystems and insure their local governments are not endangering their community by impacting the environment.

How to Educate the student body and get them to care about food issues! - Elena Dulys, The Real Food Challenge - A workshop and brainstorm session outlining different venues and methods for students to get food issues "on the menu" on campus.  Creative outlets, event ideas, and more.

How to get Published and Influence People - Steve Valk, Citizens Climate Lobby - Letters to the editor are a powerful way to present your issues to a wide audience and get the attention of elected officials. At this hands-on workshop, we'll talk about looking for opportunities to write letters to the editor, the philosophy behind writing letters that get published, and the elements of a successful letter. We'll then look for opportunities to write to Florida newspapers and write letters on the issue of climate change. Bring laptops or paper and pen, local newspapers.

How to make a (HHO) Hydrogen-on-Demand System - I.D.E.A.S. (Intellectual Decisions on Environmental Awareness Solutions) - I.D.E.A.S. will be showing students how to make an HHO Hydrogen-on-Demand system that will electrolyze water into Brown's Gas, aka OxyHydrogen.  This combustible gas can be used as an alternative technology to reduce our use and demand for fossil fuel petroleum simply by using water. 

How To Make Student Government Work For You - Tracy Wilk, UCF SGA - Tracy Wilk will present information on how to deal with student government on your campus. As the environmental and sustainability specialist, she has seen first hand how to work within SGA to make your campus more sustainable.

Kids and Climate Change - Dave Finnigan - Action ideas for teachers, parents, kids and activists - We will look at several initiatives empowering kids to create their future.  We will quickly review NWF's Climate Classroom http://www.nwf.org/climateclassroom, http://www.Kids-vs-global-warming.com, http://www.CooltheEarth.org, Alliance for Climate Education http://www.acespace.org/, http://www.ClimateChangeisElementary.com and http://TwoYearstoChange.org.  We will take action on the spot by signing the kid generated Declaration of Independence from Fossil Fuels.  We will leave the room with action steps we can take immediately to help get legislation passed and steps we can take to get long-term programs started in our communities to enact the UN 2050 targets by 2020 using the energy and enthusiasm of youth.

Levy County Nuclear Plant Intervention Panel Discussion - Mandy Hancock + Jessica Burris, Southern Energy Network + Carter Quillen - Discussion of the campaign to prevent new nuclear reactors in Levy County, Florida.  Come learn about the efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation and how you can help.

Planning a Progressive Event:  How to go back to campus and create great events to rally students around our efforts - Paula Raye O'Sullivan + Tommaso Boggia, Campus Progress - Are you organizing large, amazing events, only to find out that you have added tons of recyclable garbage to the landfill, gave out t-shirts made in sweatshops, and released enough carbon into the atmosphere to make sea levels rise another three feet? Let us help you make sure your events on progressive issues are organized in a progressive and sustainable way.

Resisting the Energy Empire in the Everglades - Gonzalo Vizcardo + Russ McSpadden + Audrey Locker, Everglades Earth First! - Our presentation is about grassroots organizing against new fossil-fuel based energy infrastructure in South Florida, such as Florida Power & Light's West County Energy Center, a natural gas power plant in western Palm Beach County, as well as against false solutions to fossil-fuel based energy in South Florida, such as FPL's new proposed nuclear reactors for its Turkey Point nuclear power plant south of Miami.

Resume Writing 101 - Shawna Feinman, University of South Florida - You've got the skills, you have the experience, now what do you do with it? Come to this workshop to find out how to create an outstanding resume or polish up an older one.

Speaking Peace: Communication that Builds Bridges - Catherine Cadden + Jesse Weins, ZENVC - This workshop will focus on how to communicate to create alliances, strengthen the ability to inspire compassion and creative teamwork with others and break down the idealogical divide with empathy and honest expression.

Student Organizing 101 - Sara Alnasur, University of South Florida - Trying to run a student organization? Things not going the way you planned?  Bring all of your questions to this workshop. I'll give you a rundown of the basic things you need to have an efficient student organization, based on my experience as the President of one of USF's most active Student Organizations. Here, we'll talk about how to increase recruitment, participation, interest and attendance, as well as how you can delegate efficiently, but not come across as a dictator. You'll have a successful organization in no time!

Tarsands: What are they and what can we do about them? - Gabe Monje, University of Central Florida - A discussion about what the Tarsands are, why they are so environmentally devastating, why and how they are happening, and what we can do to stop them.

Three levels of GREEN in building Design - William Weinaug, Jr., X-nth - We will discuss what Green and sustainable design are and why is GREEN Design important in the building construction industry.  We will outline three levels of GREENING the buildings we design.  This includes a simple approach that focuses on economics, a rating system similar to USGBC’s LEED system, and finally what we call “Beyond LEED”.  We will briefly outline what the Architecture 2030 Program and the Living Building Challenge. 

Voting with your Fork - Eating Responsibly in a Capitalist society on a College Budget - Elena Dulys, The Real Food Challenge - When you are off-campus, where do you eat?  What do you eat when you don't have time, money, or any knowledge whatsoever?  With all of the choices between hundreds and thousands of foods, how does a poor college student make the right choices with regards to environment, social justice, and locality?  How does a poor college student find these kinds of foods? Why should you even care in the first place?  This workshop deals with all of these issues from the perspective of a college student who has learned some of the best tricks to eat responsibly on a thin wallet.

Words for the Wise: Making our Organizations more Enjoyable - Catherine Cadden + Jesse Weins, ZENVC - This workshop will cover how to restore peace and sustainability within organizations working for peace and sustainability, transform enemy-images, blame, anger and criticism into understanding and constructive conversation and how to get down to it - using words productively in dialogues and meetings.
